College for Living provides you with the opportunity to learn and have fun in your community. Classes are offered four times per year in 4-week sessions. Samples of classes provided have included topics such as:


  • Creativity and exploration at the Art Museum
  • Karaoke, Wii dancing and games
  • McDonald's and a movie
  • Seeing "The Wiz" at the Akron Civic Theater
  • Easter egg decorating and dinner
  • Guys night out
  • Winter wonderland
  • Nutcracker ballet
  • Bowling with friends
  • Holiday pie and craft night
  • Take me out to the ball game
  • Line dancing fun
  • Let's putt around
  • Tie Dye and ice cream social
  • Nature photography
  • Scrapbooking and card making in paradise


This Program is funded by the Summit DD Board and coordinated by Blick Clinic. In keeping with the agency's mission, this program provides an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to learn and play in the community where they live.


Any individual eligible for Summit DD services can participate in College for Living classes. Course offerings are listed in a brochure that is distributed quarterly. Participants are able to register for multiple classes.

The College for Living Program is now taking registrations for its Summer 2013 session (June-July). Registration deadlines are class specific, see brochure for individual class deadlines. Class size may be limited at the discretion of the instructors, but a minimum of 3 persons per class is needed.
